Presenting our Show & Tail 2024/25 Season Winners!
To kick things off, a massive thanks to all members who joined us in-person and online at the club's AGM on Saturday. It was awesome to catch up with fellow spearos, meet new members, and celebrate the efforts of club members last season.
Secondly we offer huge thanks to last season's sponsors, Wettie, Victory Knives, Kiwi Custom Spearguns, Mogeo, and Fabrication & General Engineering Ltd. Go buy their stuff and use their services! The people behind these companies are passionate about our sport and put their money where their mouth is to give us such a fantastic competition.
If you've not competed in the Show & Tail comp, in a nutshell it's a season long comp where you spear fish off a set list, take a picture of the fish on the Show & Tail Comp mat which shows the length (and the names of our sponsors) and share it on the club's Facebook page. At the end of the season, the length each competitors longest fish of each species is added together, and the winner of the overall comp is the diver with the longest combined length. There are also 2nd and 3rd places, as well as prizes for the longest of each species, the 'average' of each species, seafloor cleanup, and best video and photo. With over 30 prize categories and traditionally only 100 competitors (though that may be exceeded this season at the rate the entries are coming in!) there's a good shot at scoring one or multiple prizes! The best thing is you can compete from anywhere across the South Island, entering fish as and when you come across them. No worry, no hurry! If this has get you frothing then simply use the 'register' button at the top right of this page to get yourself in the comp for this season. Too easy.
After the AGM had concluded it was on to the awards, announced and presented by our newly voted-in club president, Karl Eastmond, pictured here presenting a prize to one of our super-stoked junior members.
In all we awarded over $7000 worth of knives, dive gear, wetsuits and spearguns, which for the size of the club is a fantastic way to give value back to our members.
So, on the the winners! Take a look at what these folks took home, and huge props to the Open Mens Winner Anthony Davis who scored a huge 703cms of fish to take out the top spot. Compare this to the very first season won by Callum Milne with 220cms and you can see how far the competion has come.
Our congratulations to our winners, and we look forward to seeing how you get on in this season's comp!
